Our Places — Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 7, 2026

The short version: your saved content belongs to you, and we never see it. Our Places has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. Everything you save stays on your device and in your own iCloud account. The only personal information we ever receive is what you choose to put in an email to us.

What the app stores, and where

Our Places lets you save places (such as restaurants, cafés, or campsites) with notes, categories, menu entries, and photos. This content is stored:

Your iCloud data is stored in Apple's infrastructure under your Apple ID. We (the developer) have no technical ability to read, access, or export it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Data we collect

The app itself collects nothing. It does not transmit your saved content to us or to anyone else. It contains no third-party SDKs, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We never sell or share personal data — we have none to sell.

One exception: if you email us. The app includes a "Send Feedback" option that opens your own email app with a message addressed to us, pre-filled with the app version and your iOS version so we can reproduce problems. Nothing is sent unless you press send in your email app, and you can edit or delete anything in the message first. If you do send it, we receive whatever your email includes — typically your email address, your name as your mail account presents it, and what you wrote.

We use feedback emails only to answer you and to fix and improve the app. We do not use them for marketing, do not sell or share them, and delete correspondence when it is no longer needed for support. You can always contact us at the address below without using the app.

Face ID, Touch ID, and the app lock

You may optionally require Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode to open the app. When you do, authentication is performed entirely by Apple's system on your device. We never receive, collect, store, or have access to your fingerprint, face scan, or any other biometric information, and the app cannot read that data. We are only told whether the unlock succeeded. Your on/off preference for this setting is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to us.

Device permissions the app asks for

All permissions are optional; the app works without them (with reduced functionality).

Sharing with other people

You can keep more than one map, and each is shared separately — inviting someone to one map does not give them access to any other. If you use the sharing feature, that map is shared through Apple's iCloud sharing (CloudKit) with the specific people you invite. Participants you invite can view and edit the shared map, including places, notes, and photos. You can stop sharing at any time from within the app or your iCloud settings. Sharing happens directly through Apple — we are not involved and cannot see shared content.

Please share only with people you trust, and remember that anything you add to a shared map — including photos and notes — is visible to everyone invited to that map.

Exporting your data

The app can export your places, notes, and dish entries to a JSON file that you save or send wherever you choose. The export is generated on your device and handed to Apple's share sheet; it is never sent to us. Where it goes afterwards is entirely up to you.

Apple Maps

Place search and the "Open in Apple Maps" feature use Apple's MapKit and Apple Maps. Search queries are processed by Apple under Apple's Maps privacy terms; they are not visible to us.

Children

Our Places is a general-audience app intended for adults and families. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children — the app collects none. If a child emails us through the feedback option and we become aware of it, we will delete that correspondence. A parent or guardian may contact us at the address below to ask us to delete any message we received.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal information about you other than any email you have sent us, there is normally nothing for us to disclose, correct, or delete. You control your saved content directly: you can view, edit, export, and delete it at any time inside the app.

If you have emailed us and want us to delete that correspondence — or you want to know what we hold — write to hi@bespark.net and we will handle it promptly and at no cost. Depending on where you live (for example California, or the UK/EU), you may have statutory rights to access, correct, delete, or port personal information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising them. We honour these requests regardless of where you live. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising or profiling. Where we process a feedback email, we do so on the basis of our legitimate interest in answering you and supporting the app.

Data retention and deletion

Because your data lives only on your device and in your iCloud account, you are in full control. Deleting content in the app deletes it from your device and iCloud sync. Deleting the app removes its local data from your device; iCloud data can be removed via the app before deletion or through your iCloud storage settings.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how the app handles data, we will update this policy and the app's App Store listing before the change takes effect.
